Man Stabbed At Salvation Army In Santa Monica; Suspect In Custody

A man accused of attempted murder and kidnapping was taken into custody early Monday, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man was stabbed outside the Salvation Army and a suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping early Monday in Santa Monica, police said.

The stabbing was reported about 1:15 a.m. Monday at the Salvation Army, 1533 4th Street, according to Lt. Rudy Flores of the Santa Monica Police Department. Both the suspect and victim appear to be homeless.

Officers arrived and the person who reported the stabbing gave a suspect description and watched him as he walked away from the area. Flores said. They located the suspect near 4th Street and Colorado Boulevard.

Michael Montgomery, 29, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping.

Officers recovered a folding knife on the suspect during the arrest, Flores said.

The victim was found in front of the Salvation Army and was suffering from multiple stab wounds, Flores said.

Officers gave him first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, Flores said. The victim remains in critical but stable condition.
