Measure R Senior Exemption Application Available Now for Elderly Santa Monicans

The form must be completed, signed and returned or postmarked by June 30, 2017, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District said.

SANTA MONICA, CA -- The the 2017-2018 Senior Exemption for under Measure R Parcel Tax are being mailed out and are due by June 30, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District announced Monday.

Measure R was approved by voters in the SMMUSD in 2008 to continue the $346 a year parcel tax to fund schools in the Santa Monica and Malibu area. The measure added an exemption for seniors living in the area.

To qualify for the exemption for the 2017-18 school year, senior citizens must:

  • be age 65 by June 30;
  • own and occupy the property as their principal place of residence within the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District;
  • and, annually apply for the exemption by the application deadline of each year.

Those senior citizens who have previously applied and received the Senior Exemption are being sent 2017-18 renewal forms. The form must be completed, signed and returned or postmarked by June 30, 2017, with a self-addressed stamped envelope enclosed. First-time applicants who qualify may call for an application to be mailed to them. A first-time application is also available on the district’s website. This application must be completed, signed and returned or postmarked, along with two required proofs (age and property ownership), by June 30, 2017, with a self-addressed stamped envelope enclosed.
