More Rain, Then a Dry Christmas in L.A.

In the wake of rain and howling winds, another series of cold, moist storms will roll into the Southland as early as Friday—but it's a dry Christmas forecast.

A new storm, also from the Gulf of Alaska, is expected to hit this weekend, with light rain forecast for Sunday and showers for Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The first of the storms, forecast to arrive Saturday, will be the weakest. It brings a 40 percent shot at light precipitation, mainly after 4 p.m.

A more potent cold front "bringing the threat of significant" rain will settle over Los Angeles Sunday night and linger into Monday morning, according to the Weather Service.

A mix of sunny and partly cloudy skies is forecast Christmas Day, when highs will be in the low 60s across the Westside and South Bay.

This weekend's storms follow several days of rain, gusty winds and cold overnight temperatures.

Rainfall totals in the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday included 0.69 of an inch in Pasadena, .51 in downtown Los Angeles, .49 at Santa Monica Airport, .36 in Pomona, .31 in Northridge, and .23 at Los Angeles International Airport.

Wind gusts, meanwhile, reached 51 mph in Saugus, 49 mph in the Newhall Pass, 48 mph in the Malibu Hills and 45 mph in Beverly Hills.
