Mother, Daughter Face-Off With Burglary Suspect, Police Say

A mom and daughter recently faced off with a burglary suspect in Santa Monica, police say.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A mother and her daughter locked themselves in their bedrooms and called police when a man broke into their home, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The victim and her daughter called 911 to report a burglary in progress at their home in the 2900 block of Urban Avenue on June 30 about 4:20 a.m., police said.

The woman and child woke up to a loud, crashing noise and then saw the suspect in their living room, yelling, police said. The suspect moved around the home while they were locked in the bedrooms.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and noticed one of the windows was smashed at the home, police said.

Joshua Absolom Hattam, 49, of San Francisco, was found inside the residence and taken into custody, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Hattam's bail was set at $1M and he is being held at North County Correctional Facility. His next court date is August 2 at LAX Superior Court.
