Officer Kills Man Who Stabbed Him With Knife: Santa Monica Police

The man pulled a knife from his clothing, slashing and stabbing the officer, according to Santa Monica police.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man is dead after he stabbed an officer in Santa Monica and the officer shot him, according to police.

The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, when the officer was standing at the front of the police station in the 300 block of Olympic Drive getting information from a resident and was confronted by a man in his 30s, authorities said.

The officer told the man that he needed to wait his turn and, without warning, the man pulled a knife from his clothing, slashing and stabbing the officer, who armed himself and retreated around the corner of the building, where the shooting occurred, according to police.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the officer was seriously injured but in stable condition and expected to survive as of Sunday, police said.

The Santa Monica Police Department was conducting an internal investigation and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will be investigating as well, according to police.
