SANTA MONICA, CA — Popular Santa Monica breakfast spot Bread & Porridge has closed after nearly 28 years, according to reports from the Santa Monica Mirror and the Santa Monica restaurant blog Toddrickallen.

The Wilshire Boulevard restaurant has served as a popular, low-key watering hole for locals since 1994, serving diner food like pancakes, omelets, and naturally, its signature bread and porridge turkey salad.

Last month, a blog reader noticed a sign in the restaurant’s window saying that the restaurant was taking a temporary “break from operations.” Since then, a for-lease sign has appeared in the window.

The Mirror found that the restaurant no longer has a website, just an online menu that says at the top: “Bread and Porridge has permanently closed. Our great customers were an important part of our success since we opened in 1994. Thank you all.”
