Record Ferris Wheel Ride at Santa Monica Pier Bested in Chicago

The bragging rights for the longest Ferris wheel ride no longer reside in Santa Monica.

Over the weekend, Clinton Shepherd, a staffer at the Navy Pier in Chicago, rode the Ferris wheel for 48 hours, 8 minutes and 25 seconds awake, shattering the previous record 25-hour spin at the Santa Monica Pier.

Shepherd took on the challenge because he wanted the birthplace of the Ferris wheel to hold the record, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“Once I realized Navy Pier, my friends, my family and the city of Chicago had my back and wanted me to complete this, it became easy,” Shepherd told the newspaper. “I was thrilled and honored to be able to have all the love and support I did."
