SANTA MONICA, CA — Residents of Santa Monica are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and start plating in the city's newest community garden. A grand opening ceremony will welcome the community on Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p..m., to unveil the city's fifth public garden. The garden will feature individual garden beds, a communal growing space, rainwater harvesting, community composting and dwarf fruit trees, according to a news release from the city. The event will feature compost demonstrations and allow residents to inoculate their own worm bins — red wigglers will be provided. Tours will be offered as well as refreshments, kids activities, giveaways and a raffle for the fruit trees.
