Santa Monica College Volleyballer Western State Conference Female Athlete of the Week

Santa Monica College freshman Greta Schmittdiel is the Week #5 Western State Conference Female Athlete of the Week.

Schmittdiel has played a key role in Santa Monica’s resurgence in 2014, and helped the Corsairs to a 2-0 record on the week. Santa Monica opened up the week with a key conference match-up at Antelope Valley, where the Corsairs survived in five.

Schmittdiel had 33 kills and posted a .319 kill percentage. Schmittdiel also had three aces, 17 digs, and a solo block in the win.

Later in the week, Schmittdiel and the Corsairs swept West Los Angeles College. Schmittdiel had 16 kills, posted a .414 kill percentage, came up with six digs, and had a pair of aces in the victory. At the beginning of this week Santa Monica was ranked in the State Top 25 for the first time since the early 2000’s, checking in at #24.

Schmittdiel is from Santa Monica where she attended Santa Monica High School.
