Santa Monica Community Garden Set To Open Saturday

Santa Monica's community fifth garden is set to open Saturday, boasting garden beds, fruit trees and composting.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Looking for a kickstart on your gardening hobby? Santa Monica's fifth community garden is set to open Saturday, offering residents a space for their composting and gardening.

From 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday, locals can enjoy refreshments, activities and giveaways to celebrate the opening of Marine Park's community garden located at 1406 Marine Street.

The community garden will include community growing space, individual garden beds, rainwater harvesting, composting and dwarf fruit trees, according to the city.

Attendees at Saturday's grand opening could also win a fruit tree.

"Community Gardens are a source of pride for our community, and we actively look for ways to engage the greater community through our monthly programs, workshops and events," the city said on its website. "Gardens are therapeutic, energizing and engaging. We like to say Think Globally, Garden Locally, with every day being Earth Day and an opportunity to Get Dirty. "

The city's community garden spaces include:

  • Park Drive Community Garden, 2415 Broadway Street.
  • Main Street Community Garden, 2318 Main St.
  • Ishihara Park Learning Garden, 2909 Exposition Blvd.
  • Euclid Community Garden, 1523 Euclid Street.
