Santa Monica Convicts First Short-Term Rental Host
The city passed one of the toughest anti short-term rental laws in the nation.

Santa Monica, CA — An Airbnb host became the first person to be convicted under the Santa Monica's tough new law against short-term rentals, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Scott Shatford, who rents out five properties on Airbnb, plead no contest in a plea deal with the city on July 5. He was charged with operating a business without a license and failing to comply with citations for refusing to delist his properties, the Times reported.
By pleading no contest, Shatford agreed to pay $3,500 in fines and to stop renting in the city.
