Santa Monica High School Locked Down Due To Armed Man In Area: Police

Officers found the person and determined the weapon was a BB gun, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica High School was placed on lockdown Monday following a report of an armed man in the area, according to police.

Officers responded around 3:20 p.m. to the report of a man believed to be armed near the school, police said, adding they quickly found the person and determined the weapon was a BB gun.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while officers investigated,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in a social media post.

The person was taken into custody and the lockdown was lifted, according to police.

“SMPD thanks the community members who reported this incident and reminds everyone: if you see something, say something,” the department said in the post. “Community reports play an important role in keeping Santa Monica safe.”
