Santa Monicans can dig into films about hunger in America, corporate greed and real-life superheroines this summer at the Santa Monica Public Library.
The Political is Personal Film Series begins Wednesday, June 19 with a screening of A Place at the Table in the Main Library’s MLK Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Boulevard. All three films will begin at 7 p.m.
The first film looks at the option of making healthy food availble and affordable to all Americans as a solution to the hunger problem in the United States.
The second film We're Not Broke is set for Wednesday, July 17. The documentary shows how corporations such as Exxon, Google and Bank of America make record profits while the deficit climbs higher. It follows how seven Americans take their frustration to the streets.
The series concludes on Wednesday, August 21, with Wonder Women!, which shows the evolution and legacy of Wonder Woman.
The film goes behind the scenes with Lynda Carter, Lindsay Wagner, comic writers and artists, and real-life superheroines such as Gloria Steinem, Kathleen Hanna and others, who offer an enlightening and entertaining counterpoint to the male-dominated superhero genre.
