Santa Monica Police Arrest Man On Suspicion Of Sexual Assaults

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man was arrested on suspicion of multiple sexual assaults against elderly patients at care facilities, Santa Monica Police said Tuesday.

Juan Victor Mendoza, 55, was arrested in 2019 on suspicion of one sexual assault allegation from a victim in Santa Monica. He was released on bail. SMPD Detectives then arrested Mendoza again on Sept. 9 on suspicion of the additional sexual assault allegations.

"While awaiting court proceedings, SMPD Detectives received additional information regarding three other elderly victims who had all claimed Mendoza had conducted similar sexual acts with them," police said in a news release.

Mendoza is accused of multiple sexual assaults against elderly patients at care facilities. These assaults occurred between 2012 and 2018.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office–Airport Branch has filed four felony counts against Mendoza. He is currently in custody with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. His bail was set at $250,000.

Police are asking the public for help to identify other potential victims.

"The Santa Monica Police Department believes Mendoza may be responsible for additional crimes in the Los Angeles area," police said.
