Santa Monica School Playground Temporarily Closed For Repairs

SMMUSD announced a Santa Monica school playground would be temporarily closed for repairs.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Roosevelt Elementary School playground is closed for temporary repairs and service, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District said.

The temporary closure for school and community use includes the field, play structure, handball courts, blacktop and outdoor restrooms. The playground is expected to reopen on March 9.

The CREST program will continue after school with access to the outdoor basketball courts only, with access from Lincoln Boulevard. This is for the after-school program only.

"We appreciate your patience as we work on this outdoor space to improve the user experience," the district said in a news release. "Other SMMUSD playgrounds continue to be available as per our agreement with the City of Santa Monica."

People must still use coronavirus safety precautions, including wearing masks and staying six feet apart.

Other school playgrounds remain open, including Franklin, McKinley, Muir / SMASH, Rogers, Grant and Edison. Lincoln Middle School is now open on weekends from 3 to 5 p.m. for community use.
