Santa Monica Carjacking: Oregon Man Arrested, Booked

The carjacking occurred at around 7:15 a.m. in the 2600 block of Ocean Front Walk, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA -- An Oregon man has been taken into custody following a carjacking and pursuit Thursday morning in Santa Monica, police said.

The carjacking occurred at around 7:15 a.m. in the 2600 block of Ocean Front Walk, Santa Monica police Sgt. Saul Rodriguez said. The victim was not hurt in the incident, he said.

"A short time later, officers spotted the car and a pursuit ensued," Rodriguez said. "The suspect crashed into a car on the road at the 1500 block of Ocean Avenue."

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Brian Scott Cottrill, had minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, Rodriguez said.

He was booked on carjacking, reckless evading of police and an outstanding traffic warrant charges. Bail has been set at $100,000.
