U.S. Congressman to Stop in Santa Monica

Henry Waxman will talk about health care and the upcoming election Wednesday at the Ocean House Senior Center on Ocean Avenue.

U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman will swing into Santa Monica on Wednesday to give updates on health care reform, Medicare and the 2012 election, his press office said.

Up for reelection himself this year, the Democratic congressman will speak at 7 p.m. at the Ocean House Senior Center at 2107 Ocean Ave. in Santa Monica. 

Waxman, 72, has served in Congress since 1975. He will square off with Bill Bloomfield, a candidate running with no party preference, in the Nov. 6 general election.

The longtime incumbent has championed the Affordable Care Act, which he guided to approval by the Energy and Commerce Committee while he was chairman.

Waxman would represent Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu and the South Bay along with a nunber of the Valley and Westside communities if he's elected to the new 33rd congressional district.
