SANTA MONICA, CA — Residents should avoid swimming at the Santa Monica Pier due to increased bacteria levels, the department of public health announced Monday.

A number of county beaches have seen continued bacteria warnings, only worsened by a massive sewage spill near Palos Verdes in September.

The Santa Monica Pier was among five Los Angeles County beaches to test for unsafe levels of bacteria, including: Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro; Mother’s Beach in Marina Del Rey; 40th Street extension in Manhattan Beach; and Manhattan Beach Pier in Manhattan Beach.
