The eastbound Wilshire Boulevard onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway will close for 90 days beginning Aug. 22, the final extended ramp closure required for the reconstruction of the interchange.
According to Metro, which is overseeing the 405 Freeway construction project through the Sepulveda Pass, the existing ramp will be demolished and replaced with one that will have three times more capacity.
The new ramp will be 3,129 feet long, compared to the existing 824-foot ramp in hopes of reducing a backlog that traditionally develops at the interchange.
Motorists were advised to plan ahead and seek out alternate routes, including the northbound onramp at Santa Monica Boulevard.
Traffic control officers will be deployed at the Wilshire interchange during peak hours to direct motorists.
