Woman Killed Crossing Street In Santa Monica

She was the fifth pedestrian fatality in the city this year, according to police data.

SANTA MONICA, CA -- A woman crossing the street Monday was struck and killed, Santa Monica Police Department said. She was the fifth pedestrian fatality in the city this year, according to police data.

The crash happened around 6:10 a.m. at the intersection of 18th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard, SMPD Lt. Saul Rodriguez said.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered a pedestrian in the roadway with significant injuries," he said. "The involved vehicle along with the driver were on scene."

Santa Monica Fire Department treated the victim at the scene and transported her to an area hospital where she died, he said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the victim was running across Santa Monica Boulevard when she was struck by the driver traveling eastbound, Rodriguez said.

The driver was not impaired and is cooperating with the investigation, he said.
