
The City of Santee, especially the summer camps, Wednesday are celebrating and teaching local youth to appreciate the city's prolific park and recreation resources that make it easier to stay active and healthy.
July is Parks and Recreation Month in Santee and the City Council has proclaimed July 10 as "Go Play! Get Fit!" Youth Day.
On Wednesday the Santee Recreation summer day camp program will participate in the countywide "Go Play! Get Fit!" Youth Day to educate children on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity.
In the proclamation, the city said "Parks and Recreation strengthens community image and sense of place, increases cultural unity, facilitates social connections and community problem solving, strengthens safety and security, adds value to homes and contributes to the economic prosperity of our City... preserves and protects our natural resources... provide low cost, close-to-home access to outdoor spaces and programs to play and exercise making it easy to stay active, reducing healthcare costs..."
