Transient Stabbed In East County; Possible Suspect Arrested

EL CAJON, CA — A hostile encounter between two transients at an El Cajon strip mall led Tuesday to a stabbing that sent one of them to a hospital, authorities said.

The assault in the 400 block of North Second Street was reported about 5:30 a.m., according to the El Cajon Police Department.

Paramedics took the victim, who refused to say who had injured him, to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening leg wound, ECPD Lt. Keith MacArthur said.

While questioning a second homeless man in the area, patrol officers discovered that he was carrying a concealed knife, police said. They arrested him, but were not immediately able to verify whether he was the one who had assaulted the victim, the lieutenant said.
