Meet Saratoga's Marshall Lane Knitters
Informal group of friends meets regularly to share conversation and play with yarn and needles.

Did you know that Marshall Lane Elementary School has a group of friends who meet weekly at Prolific Oven Bakery and Cafe in Saratoga to enjoy conversation and knitting during the summer months?
We found the group at our Wednesday Coffee with the Editor session and learned that retired school secretary Jan Hunter is a member and was in attendance. She worked at the school for six years.
"We're just a knitting group," Hunter said, adding that sisters Grace and Emily Landers, are responsible for starting the weekly gatherings "because they love to knit."
Emily, 9, still attends Marshall Lane, but Grace, 12, now goes to Rolling Hills Middle School.
Mom Kate Landers said she wanted to learn how to knit to help her daughters and reached out to retired Marshall Lane teacher Merle Mund, who had learned after taking a class with friend Gail Miller, also a member of the group.
"I said, 'Come join us,' and we grew and we grew and there are many others who are not here today," Landers said.
Half of the members of the group are former Marshall Lane teachers, administrators and staff and the other half are school parents and non-related friends, Landers said.
"We're not an official group. We're just friends," Landers added.
