SARATOGA, CA — Debris from a mudslide will keep a stretch of Highway 9 closed near Saratoga until further notice, according to Caltrans.

Officials said recent storms brought a large amount of debris onto the highway from an unstable hillside, blocking access between Sanborn Road and Redwood Gulch Road. In an advisory Monday, Caltrans said ongoing safety concerns and more wet weather in the forecast required an extended closure.

"To ensure the safety of motorists, State Route 9 will remain closed until Cltrans can safely remove the debris off the road," Caltrans wrote. "It's unknown when the highway will reopen due to the active slide and upcoming severe weather which could cause more debris to wash off onto the highway."
