SARATOGA, CA — A two-hour show will pay tribute to the band Queen July 18 in Saratoga with a lead singer known for his impeccable Freddy Mercury impression.

Gary Mullen & The Works will bring their band to the Bay Area to perform some of Queen’s popular hits for fans of the legendary group in One Night Of Queen.

“We are going to rock them for two hours with all of Queen's greatest hits, and a few deep cuts thrown in too. It’s a high energy show, and we actively encourage them to sing and dance along if they want, to have a big rock and roll party,” Mullen told Patch.

“‘Somebody To Love’ is always a favorite, as we get the audience to become the choir on the song. It’s early on in the show, and lets them know that they can join in.” Mullen told Patch.

Mullen has been a lifelong Queen fan and has always been a good singer.

“It was Freddie, singing ‘We Are The Champions’ in the music video. The way he looked and sang blew me away. And the music was so big and anemic, even to me as a young kid,” Mullen told Patch.

Mullen’s career as Freddie began in 2000 after his wife and mother secretly entered him in Granada TV's “Stars in Their Eyes.” He won the Live Grand Final with a record 864,838 votes, more than double the runner-up. Following this success, Mullen performed solo to rave reviews, leading him to create One Night of Queen and form his band The Works in 2002.

Mullen said he never realized how much he sounded like Mercury until he was entered into the contest.

“I never really did. It was always people telling me that they thought sounds like him. But it wasn’t until winning the TV show in 2000, that I thought maybe there was something there. So when I started performing professionally, I would watch back concerts and music videos, to try and be more like him in the performance,” Mullen told Patch.
