Saratoga's St. Nicholas Church Russian Festival A Success!
Two-day event at church includes 'authentic' food such as borscht, vendors and entertainment.
A matryoshka doll painting welcomed the Saratoga community to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church's annual Russian and International Festival Sept. 28-29.
The festivities, held on the church's grounds, 14220 Elva Ave., included food, entertainment and vendors, but the community gravitated to Babushka’s Kitchen to taste authentic Russian specialties.
Guests could feast on pelmeni, shashlyk, borsh, golubtsi, Russian barbeque and much more being offered.
And a variety of desserts to choose from all made from scratch. “It’s fun making these desserts and they are authentic made by Russians,” said Elizabeth Pilipenko the dessert coordinator.

Children were entertained by the Russian Folktale Theater.
Vendors offered a variety of items from jewelry, matryoska dolls, books and instruments. The parish bookstore displayed for sale silk-screened icons from Russia and music and pysanky.
Saratoga residents and guests enjoyed the festival.

A man who identified himself only as Vladimir said: “This is my first time being here. I am originally from the Ukraine and I am certainly coming back again next year."
