While officials say the upgrade is critical, Scotts Valley’s fire chief and other rural departments warn projected subscriber costs could split fire agencies onto separate systems unless more funding help is found in coming years.

PG&E drones to inspect Central Coast power lines ahead of winter storms (ksbw.com) — PG&E will be flying drones over Scotts Valley and other nearby communities in the coming weeks to inspect power lines before winter storms hit. Crews will photograph only PG&E equipment, especially in hard-to-reach areas, to spot maintenance issues or vegetation that could cause outages, with inspections lasting 10–40 minutes per location and not affecting power service.

Arrest Made in 2012 Homicide Case in Santa Cruz County (crimevoice.com) — A Scotts Valley resident has been arrested in connection with a 2012 homicide in Soquel, following a lengthy Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office investigation. The 63-year-old suspect, already in county jail on other matters, now faces a murder charge and is being held without bail ahead of a January 2026 preliminary hearing.
