• County, cities agree to purchase encrypted emergency radio system (pajaronian.com) — Scotts Valley will join Santa Cruz County, local cities, and UC Santa Cruz in a new encrypted emergency radio network that promises 95% countywide coverage and shared governance. The $18 million RING system, discounted from $28 million, will roll out starting January and finish by June 2028, with Scotts Valley sharing ongoing costs and benefiting from modernized first-responder communications.

• Annual Winter on the Wharf to bring holiday magic to Santa Cruz (santacruzsentinel.com) — Scotts Valley residents are invited to head over the hill Dec. 20 as the Santa Cruz Wharf turns into a snowy, family-friendly holiday zone with Disney characters, free photos with Santa, and donation drives for local charities. Organizers still remember last year’s tornado that hit Scotts Valley, and hope this year’s celebration helps the wider community regroup and support wharf businesses after a difficult year.

• Heartbreaker: Lincoln gives up TD in final minute, loses 6-AA state final (fresnobee.com) — Scotts Valley football fans will recognize a familiar name in the 6-AA state title recap, where Lincoln-San Jose’s playoff run included a tight 24–21 win over Scotts Valley. Lincoln ultimately lost the championship in heartbreaking fashion, surrendering a final-minute touchdown and extra point to Valley Center in a 36–35 thriller in Fullerton.
