📰 News we're reading
• Santa Cruz County supervisors approve RING communications system amid cost, public access concerns (santacruzsentinel.com) — Scotts Valley is joining Santa Cruz County and other cities in a $28 million upgrade to a shared emergency radio system that promises far better coverage and reliability. Local fire leaders, including Scotts Valley’s chief, warn current cost projections could split city and district fire agencies onto different systems, and county staff are now hunting for grants and other revenues to ease the burden before the 2028–29 launch.

• PG&E drones to inspect Central Coast power lines ahead of winter storms (ksbw.com) — PG&E will be flying drones over Scotts Valley and other Santa Cruz County communities in the coming weeks to inspect power lines before winter storms hit. Each daylight inspection should last 10–40 minutes and won’t affect your power, with photos focused only on PG&E equipment to spot maintenance needs and overgrown vegetation early.
