Person Killed When Tree Hits Santa Cruz Mountains Home

A second person in the home was able to escape.

BOULDER CREEK, CA — One person died Sunday afternoon when a tree fell onto a home in Santa Cruz County, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded about 3:30 p.m. to the 14100 block of Highway 9 in Boulder Creek.

One resident made it out of the house, but another was trapped inside and died at the scene, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. The victim's name was not released.

Wind gusts in the small mountain coast community were reported at 49 miles per hour during Sunday's storm.
