Wildfire Fire Burns in the Santa Cruz Mountains
Ammunition exploded when the flames burned a shed in the Zayante neighborhood.

A wildfire broke out on the 9400 block of Zayante Drive in the Santa Cruz Mountains late Friday afternoon, burning a shed that contained ammunition, authorities reported.Â
No one was hurt.
A nearby resident in the rural Zayante neighborhood, John Tracy, shared the following report:Â
Fire in our back yard this evening. No structural damage to our house. Our neighbor lost a shed and an RV. Six engines, two line crews, a water helicopter, and a slurry bomber kept the rest of the neighborhood safe.
Our thanks to all the fire fighters that showed up, and to our fast thinking neighbors who doused the hot spots near our house. Without you, we would have lost everything.
The Santa Cruz Sentinel reported that ammunition exploded, which kept firefighters back from battling the blaze early on. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots.Â
Air tankers assisted in extinguishing the flames, which took about two hours to control. A mobile home, two outbuildings and a half-acre of vegetation burned, the Sentinel reported
