VAN NUYS, CA — A rideshare driver convicted of raping a Van Nuys woman was sentenced to six years in state prison on Tuesday afternoon. The man, Octavio Gomez, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.Prosecutors said the victim called for a Lyft after leaving a local bar on Oct. 2, 2018. Rather than taking her to the dropoff location, prosecutors said Gomez drove her to a secluded location and raped her.Gomez was arrested in September 9, 2019 after a lengthy surveillance period by detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department. He later pled no contest to one felony count of raping an unconscious person last month.City News Service contributed to this report.
