Lyft Driver Sentenced To Six Years For Van Nuys Rape
The attack happened in October of 2018.
VAN NUYS, CA — A rideshare driver convicted of raping a Van Nuys woman was sentenced to six years in state prison on Tuesday afternoon. The man, Octavio Gomez, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Prosecutors said the victim called for a Lyft after leaving a local bar on Oct. 2, 2018. Rather than taking her to the dropoff location, prosecutors said Gomez drove her to a secluded location and raped her.
Gomez was arrested in September 9, 2019 after a lengthy surveillance period by detectives at the Los Angeles Police Department. He later pled no contest to one felony count of raping an unconscious person last month.
