SHERMAN OAKS, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Maxine G. Kardell who nominated Uri Herscher of Sherman Oaks. Uri holds a PhD and founded the Skirball Cultural Center, recently retiring in January .

Reason for recognition: He created a cultural center and museum visited by thousands of LA school children and other visitors from around the world.

One thing to know: He is visionary who as CEO kept the Skirball running for 20 years.
