Take Your Kids to a Musical Open House

Piano Play Music Systems is holding free classes for young children Sunday.

Musically inclined youth will be pleased to learn that Piano Play Music Systems is having an open house at its Sherman Oaks campus Sunday, and has lined up a variety of free classes. Starting at 11:00 a.m., there are classes and activities for toddlers, followed by lessons for children up to 8 years of age later in the day ( for a full schedule.)

Phoebe Simpson, the co-owner of the school, told Patch about the school's curriculum and the classes on offer at the open house.

"It's a free preview for parents and children to get a little insight of how we offer the classes, and what we do," said Simpson.

According to Simpson, the preview classes are a little shorter than the school's regular classes, enabling staff to offer a full selection of age-appropriate classes throughout the open-house day.

The school, said Simpson, emphasizes interactive activities with stories, puppets, music and dancing. All of the courses offered are music-theory based. Younger students are able to learn what a whole note is, for example, and then depict one through arts and crafts. Older children (kindergarten age and up) will be taught piano basics, learning notes on the treble clef and, as the semester progresses, the bass clef will be introduced, too.
