Van Nuys Airport Receives $19 Million Grant From FAA
The grant will be used to resurface and seal the pavement on its primary runway.
SHERMAN OAKS, CA — The Van Nuys Airport received an $18.9 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to resurface and seal pavement on its primary runway. Smaller grants were also given to the Hollywood Burbank Airport and the Hawthorne Municipal Airport, it was announced Thursday.
Construction at the Van Nuys Airport is set to begin in February 2022 and last until November.
"Investing in our nation's infrastructure is how our country helped spark an aviation industry that now supports millions of jobs," said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg. "These Airport Improvement Program grants will help modernize America's airports and ensure that our air transportation system remains the safest and most efficient in the world."

As part of the FAA's announcement, The Hollywood Burbank Airport and Hawthorne Municipal Airport received a $1.89 million grant and $1.57 grant, respectively. Hollywood Burbank Airport will use the money for land acquisition, while Hawthorne's grant will go toward taxiway reconstruction and sealing.
"These grants represent the legacy and vital role of airport infrastructure grant programs in helping the air transportation system operate safely," said FAA Administrator Steve Dickson. "Investing in our nation's infrastructure through AIP grants is a cornerstone of our commitment to safety."

The FAA awarded a total of $898.9 million to over 447 airports in 49 states, the American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands and Puerto Rico. Grants will be used to improve safety, efficiency, infrastructure, security and more.
