Here are five outstanding volunteer organizations in the Sonoma Valley area.
1. Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance: By pairing young people with adult mentors, this organization supports children with guidance, encouragement and a positive influence. The Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance currently serves nearly 400 children with school-based mentoring and for the past five years, the organization has seen a 100 percent graduation rate among its program participants. 2. Sonoma Ecology Center: With a focus on community collaboration, this organization works towards ecological health in Sonoma Valley. Sonoma Ecology Center offers a variety of educational programs that reach over 1,300 students each year. The organization has helped preserve more than 5,000 acres of land in Sonoma Valley through partnerships and also conducts research to monitor the health of the local watershed. 3. Sonoma Overnight Support: Formed in 2003, this organization is dedicated to sheltering the homeless and feeding the hungry in Sonoma and Sonoma Valley.
