Annual Sustainable Winegrowing Field Day is Aug. 9

Experts from UC Davis will address the public at Shone Farm in Forestville.

The Sonoma County Winegrape Commission, SRJC Ag and Natural Resources Department and California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance (CSWA) are co-sponsoring the 12th Annual Sustainable Winegrowing Field Day on Aug. 9. The event will be held at SRJC's Shone Farm and begins at 7:30am. Shone Farm is at 7450 Steve Olson Lane, Forestville.

Registration check-in begins at 7:30am with the presentations from 7:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend but pre-registration is required. Last day to register is Aug. 3 at: www.sonomawinegrape.org/fieldday

Grape growers, wineries and the public are invited to attend. Continuing Education Units have been approved, according to a news release. Various public agencies will offer informational tables during the break.

This year's agenda includes: Carbon Sequestration by Vineyards by Dr. David Smart, UC Davis; Scientifically Addressing Spray Coverage by Dr. Franz Niederholzer, UC Cooperative Extension; PD-Resistant Grapevines and Winemaking Quality by Dr. Andy Walker, UC Davis; SARE Grant, Water Management, Conservation and Irrigation Initiative by Dr. Mark Greenspan, Advanced Viticulture; and IPM Season Highlights by Laura Breyer, Breyer's Vineyard IPM Service.

There will also be presentations by Allison Jordan and Lisa Francioni of California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance on CSWA's carbon projects, performance metrics program and the Small Grower Certification Pilot Program.

CSWA is sponsoring lunch and Wilbur-Ellis is sponsoring morning and break refreshments.
