Driver With Gunshot Wound Crashes Into Sheriff's Patrol Car: Police

SONOMA, CA — A driver crashed into a Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office patrol car while suffering from a gunshot wound and later died, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Thursday when a deputy’s car was struck at a low speed by a vehicle at West Napa Street and Riverside Drive in Sonoma, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy got out to help the driver and found the person covered in blood with a gunshot wound and a handgun, authorities said, adding the driver was airlifted to a hospital but died.

Detectives are investigating, but authorities believe the incident was isolated and poses no threat to public safety, according to the sheriff’s office.
