DUI Suspected In 100-MPH Sonoma County Chase, Crash

The alleged DUI driver's SUV was completely obliterated when it hit a tree at triple-digit speed, a Sonoma County sheriff's official said.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Santa Rosa man whose vehicle split in half length-wise Saturday night when it hit a tree at triple-digit speed, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said. A sheriff's deputy saw a small SUV driving at almost 90 mph in a 55-mph zone weaving and cutting off drivers on state Highway 12 near Calistoga Road around 11:20 p.m. Saturday.

The driver, identified as Leudegario Reynaga, 22, fled east at 100 mph when a deputy turned on his patrol car lights, the sheriff's office said.

Reynaga turned off his headlights on the winding highway and struck a tree just west of Pythian Road, a couple miles from the Kenwood area. The crash at triple-digit speed completely obliterated the SUV, and fire personnel extricated Reynaga from the vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
