Alameda, CA – Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal), one of the largest Councils in the country providing girls a safe space with strong sisterhood and adult mentorship, closed out a successful 2022 Cookie Season on March 27 despite facing challenges due to the nationwide supply chain issues that affected their baker. This year, Girl Scouts in 19 countries from Gilroy to the Oregon border sold cookies in-person, online, and through girl-operated DoorDash locations to sell an astounding 3,850,000 boxes of cookies. When faced with the issue of delayed cookie deliveries for in-person cookie sales, girl entrepreneurs showed their resilience and focused on marketing their online business, helping thousands of girls reach their goals to raise funds for community programs and outdoor adventures. 100% of the net profits from GSNorCal’s Girl Scout cookie sales stays in local NorCal communities.
“Our girl entrepreneurs and volunteers have overcome many new challenges over the past few years, and this year was no exception,” said Christine Dhondt, Sr. Director, Product Programs of Girl Scouts of Northern California. “We were not immune to the challenges of the nationwide supply and labor shortages, and we are so grateful to our volunteers, communities, and bakers who all stepped up in a big way to help our girl entrepreneurs turn this challenge into an opportunity.”
With the added benefit of the newly revamped online ordering experience at ilovecookies.org, and new partnership with Bay Area based DoorDash, GSNorCal has modernized their cookie program to inspire the next generation of girl entrepreneurs by teaching them modern day business management and digital marketing skills, in addition to the longtime tradition of in-person cookie sales.
