DUI Suspect Arrested After Hit-And-Run, Police Chase In Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash while under the influence of alcohol, police said.

John Patrick Thorpe, 43, of Santa Rosa, was arrested for DUI and reckless evading on Thursday night.

At around 9:10 p.m., Santa Rosa police responded to reports of a collision near Hahman Drive and Magowan Drive involving a blue Saturn and a white panel van, police noted.

Witnesses reported that the Saturn fled the scene.

An SRPD accident investigator spotted the damaged Saturn and attempted a traffic stop, but Thorpe failed to yield, prompting a short pursuit, according to the SRPD.

Due to the vehicle's significant damage from the initial crash, it soon became almost unusable, Thorpe surrendered, police said.

Officials said Thorpe showed signs of intoxication and sustained minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Thorpe was booked into Sonoma County Jail.
