Man Found Dead In Car Submerged In Floodwater In Sonoma County

A man was found dead in a vehicle submerged in floodwater in Sonoma County Saturday morning.

GUERNEVILLE, CA — A man who was found in a submerged vehicle by a bystander in Sonoma County was declared dead on Saturday morning, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office was notified at about 11:30 a.m. about the man, who was in a vehicle in flood water near Mays Canyon Road and state Highway 116, Sheriff's Office spokesperson Robert Dillion said in a statement on Facebook.

Deputies worked with the Sheriff's Office Marine Unit and firefighters from the Sonoma County and Monte Rio fire departments.

The man was recovered from the vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene.
His cause of death was not disclosed.

The Bay Area was struck by an atmospheric river rainstorm on Friday that dumped more than 13 inches of rain in the area, which is south of Guerneville, in the last 72 hours, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
