Motorcyclist Killed After CHP Chase Is ID'd

Highway Patrol officers tried to stop the Cloverdale man when they determined the motorcycle he was riding was stolen. A pursuit followed.

SONOMA COUNTY - The Sonoma County coroner’s office has identified the motorcycle rider who died after he crashed during a California Highway Patrol pursuit Saturday morning as 38-year-old William Moncada Jr. of Cloverdale.

Moncada was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. Saturday at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, a coroner’s office spokeswoman said.

CHP officers saw Moncada’s motorcycle on U.S. Highway 101 near state Highway 116 in Cotati and determined by its license plate that it had been reported stolen, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

The officers tried to stop the motorcycle but it fled west on Highway 116 toward Sebastopol.

Moncada lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a fence at Old Gravenstein Highway, Sloat said.
