Police Log: Citizens Arrest for Steiner's Sneak, Hit and Run, Depot Park Tagging

Friday, Feb. 17

Using a grant from the , Sonoma Police conducted a sweep, using under age decoys to target restaurants serving alcohol. On Friday afternoon, nine ABC licensed establishments were checked, including Steiner’s Tavern, , , , , , Golden Spring Manderin Cuisine, Easy Stop Market, El Brinquito and 7-11. None supplied the department's minor decoys with alcohol. 

But, during a shoulder tap operation – where the minors approach of-age adults, asking them to procure alcohol – at the Boyes Food Center, police cited two men. Vincent Matteo a 54-year-old Boyes Hot Springs man bought a container of beer for an 18-year-old decoy and was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

Sean McCartney, 36, a Freemont resident, also bought for underage decoy. When deputies approached McCartney, he took off running until an officer threatened him with a taser, causing him to stop and shove something in his mouth. Unfortunately for McCartney, he shoved a dollar bill in his mouth, not the gram of methamphetamine he was concealing in his pocket. He was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor, obstructing an investigation and violating his probation and was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Saturday, Feb. 18

DUI: At 4:19 a.m. two deputies spotted a car sprawled between two parking spots in the lot. The driver, a 33-year-old Sacramento woman, displayed symptom of intoxication. She failed her sobriety tests and blew a .11 on a breath test. She was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and released to her sister.

Sunday, Feb. 19

Drunk in Public: After repeated warnings for misbehavior, bar staff at kicked Ryan Crook out. But, after the 23-year-old Santa Rosa man snuck back into the bar, staff apprehended him and held him face down on the sidewalk until police arrived. Crook was arrested for public intoxication and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Depot Park: Deputies caught a 28-year-old Sonoma woman writing her name on the gazebo in . She was for vandalism and a probation violation and released.

Hit and Run: At 9:08 a.m. a resident reported the rear bumper of her car was hit while parked in the Best Western Parking Lot.

Monday, Feb. 20

Vandalism Report: At 12:22 p.m. a resident of the 200 block of Clay St. reported that his son’s 2003 Nissaan 350z was egged during the evening. A high school classmate admitted to the egging.

Citation: Two Sonoma youths, ages 18 and 14, were cited for skating in the Maxwell Park Skate Park without a helmet. Petty Theft: A bike left unlocked at the base of Mountain Cemetery was stolen while its owner hiked on Feb. 18. The bike is described as a dark blue ’91 Mongoose Alta mountain bike, worth $75 - $100. The bike’s owner noticed some youths nearby, but didn’t see them take his bike.

Thursday, Feb. 23

Breaking and Entering: Someone entered a home on the 500 block of Joaquin Dr., breaking a bedroom window and forcing the door knob of a rear door, between 8 and 10 p.m., while the owner was away. They made off only with jewelry, taken from the home’s bedroom. The department has no suspects or leads.
