Santa Rosa was among two Bay Area cities — 30 in the U.S. — where rallies were planned Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA — Two rallies were planned in the Bay Area Friday as part of an action in 30 U.S. cities opposing the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy that separates immigrant children from their parents.
The first rally was scheduled for 12:30 p.m. outside the Alameda County Sheriff's Office at 1401 Lakeside Drive in Oakland, organizers said.
The second rally was slated for 5:30 p.m. at Courthouse Square, 50 Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa.

Thousands of people were expected to protest across the country against what organizers describe as the administration's "inhumane" decision to start separating families caught crossing the border.

The new policy is a break with a longtime policy of allowing families to stay together while their cases are processed.
The protesters are also demanding that Congress defund Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
