A 38-year-old Santa Rosa man who was convicted of trying to kill the mother of his children in 2020 was sentenced to life in prison.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A 38-year-old Santa Rosa man who was convicted of trying to kill the mother of his children in 2020 was sentenced to life in prison, the Sonoma County District Attorney said on Friday.

Adrian Cervantes-Alvarez was sentenced to six years for the attempted murder charge, but it was his third strike under California's Three Strikes law, which increased his sentence to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in 27 years.

Cervantes-Alvarez was convicted in February of the attack, which occurred in August 2020, when he stabbed the victim several times with a pair of grooming scissors in front of their children. The assault only ended when a neighbor intervened, according to the District Attorney's Office.
