Sonoma Police: High on Marijuana, Looking for Late-Night Snacks, Man Drives into Parked Car

Friday, Oct. 21

Passing False Checks: A women told police that two people used a bad check to purchase several items from a garage sale at her residence on the 2000 block of Harrington Drive on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. The women, who identified herself as Rene Adsero, 47, and a man, identified as Jay Jackson, 38, agreed to purchase an Oak lowboy dresser and matching mirror, and vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia, for $345. They paid by check – which drew from a closed checking account, according to the seller – and loaded the haul into a dark green Honda van. According to police records, Jackson is on parole and has failed to show up for recent meetings. Police have been unable to locate the pair, who vacated their Yountville home, and have a registered P.O. box in Saratoga, CA.

Groping: A 42-year-old Sonoma woman told police she was vacuuming her car at the when a man came up behind her, placed his head on her back, and grabbed both of her breasts with his hands. He took off on a dark men’s mountain bike; she tried to chase him, but stopped and called the police. Deputies arrived on scene quickly, but couldn’t locate a suspect. The victim described the groper as a white male in his mid-thirties, with short dark hair, six feet tall, thickly built. He was wearing a light orange t-shirt, khaki cargo shorts and wrap-around headphones.

Petty Theft: A women parked her blue Ford Explorer in the side parking lot at at 3:50 pm. When she returned 20 minutes later her Samsung phone and ATM card were missing from the car’s center console. The car showed no signs of forced entry.

Attempted Burglary: At 6:15pm a man received a call from an old friend, asking to meet up at his home. The man left work early, and arrived home to find the friend, Gregory Russell, 41, inside his garage and his front window broken. The man, told police that he suspected Russell was attempting to burglarize his home; Russell told police that he showed up early to a pre-arranged marijuana purchase. According to police, Russell is out on bail in three separate cases, and has a lengthy criminal history. He was charged with attempted burglary and committing a felony while out on bail and was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Burglary: On Oct. 14 a man arranged for his beige 2006 Hyundai Sonata to be towed to for repair work. On Oct. 21 he picked up the car and found the registration papers taken from the glove box, and a $50 hand-tool set and $20 first aid kit taken from the trunk. He told police that he supplied Sonoma Tires with spare keys during the service, because the original set went missing during the tow.

Saturday, Oct. 22

Driving Under the Influence: At 2:37am a Sonoma deputy was returning from Santa Rosa jail drop off, when he spotted a gold Toyota Corolla driving the East-bound in a West-bound lane. He pulled the driver, Celio Osorio-Tavares, 42, off the road at Mendocino Ave. Osorio-Tavares said he drank five beers at a friend’s house. He showed signs of intoxication, and registered at .21 and .20 percent blood alcohol on two breath tests. He was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol, and a probation violation.

Dog Bite: A resident of the 900 block of Lee Court filed an informational report after her neighbor, on Aug. 23, took her 8-year-old son, and both families’ dogs to a nearby park. Around 7pm, the neighbor’s dog – a black and tan mixed breed weighing about 60 lbs – reportedly jumped towards the child and bit him above his right eye, leaving him with a scar the size of a pencil eraser. The wound did not require stitches, but required hospital treatment costing $1,500. According to Sheriff’s Department records, the dog also bit a postal worker on July 28. Officials are taking steps to register the dog as a vicious animal.

Monday, Oct. 24

Violation of Probation: At 11:55pm an officer was dispatched to regarding reports of a suspicious person harassing customers in the parking lot. The man had left, but the officer soon located Jim Harte, a 54-year-old Rohnert Park resident, who was panhandling in the Safeway parking lot. Harte reportedly smelled of alcohol and had blood on his face; he told police he’d fallen and cut himself. He is on probation for a prior offense and required not to use alcohol and told police he was in Sonoma to attend a court-mandated alcohol counseling session. He registered .23-blood alcohol in a police department test. He was booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Forging Prescriptions: At noon officers were dispatched to , after a clerk reported that Debra Ghilotti, a 51-year-old Sonoma resident, handed in a forged prescription for Vicodin. Officers confronted Ghilotti at her home, where she initially denied passing the prescription, then admitted to officers that she had stolen several blank prescription pads from her doctor’s office and had used one to get Vicodin. She was cited for forging prescriptions and stealing prescription forms from a doctor’s office.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

DUI: Around 8:25pm a man drove his grey Mazda sedan into a white Ford pickup truck, parked in front of on West Napa Street. A witness reported that the driver, Josuf Rahmatullah, a 25-year-old Sebastopol resident, drove through an intersection when he suddenly began to drift to the southern curb, without slowing down. Rahmatullah, who escaped with minimal injuries, told police he was en route from Santa Rosa to Healdsburg for some vegetarian food, when he decided to re-route to Sonoma Market, which had already closed by the time he got there. He told officers that he’d consumed one marijuana bar, most of a second marijuana bar, and a ‘pecan,’ also laced with marijuana. Police also found marijuana products in his car. Rahmatullah was arrested and transported to Sonoma Valley Hospital for a drug test.
