Why I Moved to Sonoma: A Great Night at the Swiss Hotel

Tom Scott's 'Sonoma moment' prompted a relocation over a decade ago. Here's his story:
In 1995 my then wife and I were living in Novato, as it provided an easy commute for her to the East-Bay and for me to a local winery where I worked.
One Friday night after work I was turned on to the by a co-worker. Well the evening progressed, as those things often do and at one point I (jokingly) asked “Do you have any rooms available this evening?”

The waitress came back about 30 minutes later and said: “You’re all set, we have you in #2 at the top of the stairs…here’s your key”. Oops.
Soooo… I called my wife to “inform” her I was staying in Sonoma for the night. She “informed” me that I had better be alone (I was) because she was on her way.

Well the next morning we walked around the Plaza and decided, “you know, this would be a cool place to live."
Started looking in earnest and purchased a home three months later.
