Artist Highlights Snapshots of Domestic Life
TAME will be on display at SPACE until July 2.
A peanut butter-and-jelly sandwich, a clothing rack and a slab of meat. These inspired Jordan Daines toward the creation of her latest series of abstract oil paintings on display until July 2 at .
"Each piece of work fed off the next. From fabric, I went to clothes," said Daines whose current series, TAME, mixes vibrant colors with minimalist landscapes to bring day-to-day observations to life.
TAME consists of three subjects: Fabric, clothes and food. The shawarma interpretations, in fact, are her favorite of the collection. When asked if she'd talk about her work on camera, Daines is hesitant. She'd rather others draw their own conclusions.

"I don't like to give too much away," said the stay-at-home mom who has learned to balance motherhood with work using a small space in her South Pasadena apartment. The support of her husband hasn't hurt, either.
"I paint in spurts. I'll paint a lot and do a body of work, then take a break," she explains. "I have a small work space with good lighting in a good corner."

And luckily, her 7-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter haven't hindered her work flow too much.
Although Daines has shown art in galleries around L.A. in the past, this is her first solo show. She met the women at SPACE when she strolled into the gallery about two and a half years ago.
"We got to know her as a person and as an artist, and we liked her work," said gallery director Katya Shaposhnik, also calling Daines a gifted and up-and-coming artist. "We could see Jordan exploding down the line."
