Mug Shots Released of Suspects Who Scammed Elderly

Two men are in custody after scamming a woman at Rite Aid. Have you been a victim of this kind of con?

Police have released the photos of two men charged with attempting to scam an elderly woman in the parking lot of Friday.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to the 900 block of Fair Oaks, where they encountered a disturbance between an elderly female and Malefa Moliga, 57, of San Carlos.

After an investigation, police discovered Moliga and Glenn Kinniebrew, 51, of Seattle, WA, were allegedly in the middle of a “pigeon drop” scam,

Here's how police are describing the scam, according to a crime bulliton released Tuesday (see attached):


The victim was contacted by S1 at a Vons Market in Pasadena. S1 said he was lost and was looking for an attorney’s office in Wilshire Blvd.

S1 then asks the victim to call his attorney to give directions. The attorney then asks the victim to drive S1 to get something to eat. Victim agrees and drives S1 to South Pasadena where they stop at parking lot.

S1 says a relative passed away and left behind a large amount of money to S1, with instructions to donate the money to a church. S1 also says he has to leave the country by 6 PM. S1 shows victim a black leather bag containing numerous bundled up US currency and a letter from an attorney instructing S1 about the donation.

S1 calls the attorney, listed on the letter, and victim speaks to the attorney. The attorney tells victim that if she helps S1, victim would get $20,000.

Attorney started to ask victim personal financial information, which victim refused. S2 happens to walk by and S1 flags S2 down and begins to speak to him. Officers arrive at this point and interrupt the scam.

A similar incident occurred in the 400 block of Fair Oaks on March 16, The victim did not cooperate, and the suspects left without any loss.

The victim in the previous incident identified both suspects and the black leather bag as the same one that attempted to scam him, according to reports.
